LOVE PLANT
-Nonilon V. Queano/7February2011
They will not be as radiant but oh,
They will truly shine,
The sun, the stars, the moon, a smile
At night or vespers;
And they will truly bloom,
Roses, sunflowers, champignons,
Cherries, young girls who blush
When gazed at, though meekly,
By blue and red boys;
And truly they wil bear fruit
Avocados, mangoes, berries, pomelos,
Tamarinds, scions of whatever,
Protozoans, spirozoans, dream-wetters.
Oh they will all truly, truly they will
All thunder and crackle and flare up the sky
Or in the pallid air of autumn or winter,
Up the North Pole or down South,
Right of West or left of East,
Truly as time spins into this wilderness
Of empires and quicksands.
They will all.
But they will not be as radiant, white, eternal
As this love plant I tend in my backyard,
Invincible and true,
It beams at the downtrodden
Sings songs of struggle and hope,
And fills all hearts of those who
Cry out for freedom,
With oh such myrrhy fragrance,
And oh such red, red fire.
